Disappointed by the ratings...
As a dog lover, I felt kind of disappointed and a bit upset when I saw the ratings of this movie. All the hard and brilliant work of the actors and the cute dogs seems to go down the drain just because of people being mislead by some fake footage. So everyone, just please actually WATCH the movie and enjoy it, and give it 10 out of 10 because it truly deserves that!
PETA backlash just trying to ruin this great movie
Me and my bf really wanted to see this movie, but did NOT want to support any kind of animal abuse. So we both looked into it and it turned out that the film in question (the German shepherd being forced into the water) had been edited together after being taken over a year ago, which is when it should've been brought to light if they really had been mistreating any animals. After finding out a few more things about it and looking at everything from all different angles, we decided to go see the movie and I'm glad we did. The scene with the German Shepherd jumping into the water wasn't even filmed with an actual dog, it was CGI, which I assume was because the actual dog was too scared to do the jump like that. Also, the movie was just great in general. It was a literal emotional roller coaster, making me laugh one minute and a sobbing mess the next. But even though it had me crying at some points and thinking about my first dog, Belle, and how much I miss her, the happy moments really made up for that. I've always been a huge dog person, I loved Belle like she was a third guardian, always watching out for me and my brother, and I love Grace like my own baby and my best friend. And this movie made me appreciate dogs even more and how much they do for us without even realizing. If anyone out there decided NOT to watch this movie just because of one video from TMZ and PETA (of all people), do some more research into it and give it a chance, because it really was an amazing movie
A Dog's Purpose smear tactic
Don't believe these people that were paid off or have an agenda regarding the success or failure of this movie. TMZ and others are scum for doctoring the footage.

Go see it. The rescue animals deserve their recognition. Perhaps the dog was not used to the generated waves created by the machine. He probably enjoys swimming and jumping in pools of water. The handlers may have not been patient enough or understanding what the director was trying to accomplish. I'm certain that if you saw the tape of the dog after the scene was filmed, he was thrilled to be participating in the water scene. Did you happen to watch Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp where there tossed the dog into a man-made river where the dog was doing everything it could to keep its head above water.
Spiritual and Loving
Last night after seeing A Dog's Purpose I awoke this morning realizing I had a myriad of dreams. All of which were filled with love. I realized that seeing this movie was why I had these beautiful dreams. Because for me the movie was about LOVE. Love of a boy and his first dog, love that the dog had for his boy , young love, falling in love, lost love, love of enjoying life, love of having fun, family love, dog's love for another dog, finding an old love, and the ongoing love Bailey had throughout all his lives for his Ethan. Yes I cried throughout the movie, but I laughed as well. I enjoyed hearing what Bailey felt throughout each of his lives and the people he shared them with. Yes I applauded loudly with the rest of the movie goers when the movie ended (by the way the movie was sold out and they had to turn down people that wanted to see it last night) and yes I will definitely see it again. My friends who knew how much I love book told me to watch it with an open mind. I did.

After seeing it, I can tell you in all honesty that this movie was awe-inspiring and my heart was filled with LOVE. After all, what is the purpose of life....
I can't believe IMDb rated this at 2 and still under 5. I give this 10 out of 10
I went into this movie with my 2 young daughters who are 5 and 7. We loved this movie. So good. Great emotional movie. Happiness and sadness. I give this movie 10 out of 10. I haven't seen a movie as good as this since I Am Sam. I think this is probably the most memorable dog movie I have now seen. Shame on IMDb for rating this under 5. How could you guys. I haven't made a review on this website probably in 10 years but I just had to make a review for this movie. Definitely worth watching... Loved it.
Amazing scenario
I like how this movie is composed. Every single part of it, says something. Thanks to the authors and everybody who worked on it. I liked storyline and animals. They are very natural and well chosen. I saw many aspects which changed my opinions about animals. 10 points for sure.
A Dog's Purpose is a really good drama for the beginning of 2017
This movie seemed up director Lasse Hallstrom's alley since he previously directed something called My Life as a Dog. This one tells of Bailey who is introed as the pet of a boy named Ethan and...well, a lot happens between that and the end and I don't want to reveal any more. I'll just now say that me and my movie theatre-working friend really enjoyed this one as we found some scenes funny and many touching. Based on the trailers, you may or may not be surprised by the revelations that happen near the end. Really, I don't want to reveal anymore, just that it's really good. So on that note, A Dog's Purpose is very much worth seeing.
You gotta watch this movie
I almost passed on this movie due to the very low score and voices of social justice verdict.

This movie carries a very positive message; how dogs were given limited or no choice in their lives, and a short lifespan, lives their lives to the fullest by selflessly trying to please people before themselves, while looking for a purpose in every mundane detail of their lives.

Bringing tears out of my eyes is no small feat. I can't remember the last movie that managed to do this. People say it manipulated with my emotions with a fake story but, fabricated or not, they were successful in making me feel the weight every time the dog bids farewell. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Must see for ex-owners of dogs.
Wonderful adaptation of superb book
I love animals, especially dogs. Last summer, my husband and I listened to a WONDERFUL book on audio called "A Dog's Purpose." I fell in love with the book and the whole story of a dog that lives many lives, using what he/she learned in a previous life to help his/her people in the present incarnation. It was brilliant.

Then I learned that the book was being made into a movie and I became the most excited I have been to anticipate a movie premiere in many years.

You probably heard about the controversy, however, about a dog being mistreated on the film set and how the PETA outcry delayed the opening of the movie. I have learned a lot about PETA that I find appallingly eye-opening (particularly since our beloved dog Giselle is a wonderful pet rescued from a high-kill shelter). The video of a dog supposedly being mistreated in the shooting of this film was doctored but, because of it, the movie may not do as well as it truly deserves to.

If you enjoy dogs, good movies, and want a fun family film, I hope you'll consider "A Dog's Purpose." It's a great movie for everyone but I would probably not take a sensitive young child since some of the sequences are intense. It is rated PG for a reason. Be prepared to laugh and to cry. My husband went to the men's room after the movie and a big, macho man was in there standing with his head against the wall sobbing (presumably because of the movie). The movie retains the basic story and heart of the book while taking dramatic license for length. If you love dogs, you'll love this movie!
